The Boston Red Sox have been the professional baseball team of Boston, Massachusetts since 1901. They were originally known as the Boston Americans until their name change in 1908. The Boston Red Sox have played in Fenway Park since 1912. Since 2003, every home game has been sold out, proving the Red Sox’s fans’ loyalty to their team. Of all the MLB teams, the Sox have the highest average road attendance. The Boston Red Sox were one of the eight charter franchises of the American League and they played in the first World Series against the Pittsburg Pirates. By the year 1918 they had won their fifth World Series. The championship win was not to be repeated until they won their sixth World Series in 2004, beating the St. Louis Cardinals.
